What this covers

Afterlane is an original endless lane-hopper for Android, published by Unit Labs on Google Play. This page explains what the game uses and why. It adds detail to the Unit Labs privacy notice. Where the two differ for Afterlane, this page applies.

Summary

  • No ads, and no advertising networks.
  • No analytics tools run by Unit Labs.
  • No Afterlane account, and no Afterlane server. The save stays on your phone. If you sign in to Play Games, Google keeps a copy.
  • The game does not ask you to type your name, email, phone number, or card details.
  • Google Play handles one-time purchases and the Paper Pass subscription. Play Games sign-in is optional. Unit Labs never sees your card number.
  • Unit Labs does not sell personal data.

On your device

The game stores your run in its own storage on your phone. That includes scores, lanes crossed, Points, Ink, season and daily stamp progress, unlocked avatars, cosmetics, trails, paper styles, the equipped loadout, and settings such as mute, trail, the size of the heads-up display, and tips. It also keeps local flags for the Paper Pass window, trials, starter bundle ownership, and free mode tries.

That copy stays on your phone until you delete it. Device backup is turned off for Afterlane, so a phone backup or transfer does not carry the save. If you sign in to Play Games, a copy of the same save is stored with Google, as described below.

Purchases and Paper Pass

Ink packs, avatars, skins, trails, and the starter bundle are optional one-time purchases. Paper Pass is an optional subscription. Both are sold through Google Play. Google handles the payment and your payment details under the Google privacy policy. The game receives only the purchase status it needs to unlock what you bought, or to tell that Paper Pass is still active. Unit Labs never sees your card number. A restore uses the same Google account.

Play Games

Sign-in is offered when you open the game, and again from Settings. You can decline it and still play. The free game does not require a sign-in.

If you sign in, Google processes your Play Games profile under its own policies. The game sends Google a copy of the save on your phone, including scores, Points, Ink, unlocks, settings, and the local flags for what you own. That copy can bring the save back on a device signed into the same Play Games profile. The newer save replaces the older one. Unit Labs does not receive it, and it is not posted on a public leaderboard.

Google can also receive diagnostic data that the Play Games service uses to run sign-in and sync. That data is handled by Google, and it is encrypted in transit.

Network access

The game can use a connection to talk to Google Play about a purchase, a restore, or Paper Pass, and to Play Games to sign in and sync the save. There is no Afterlane server. You can hop with no connection once the game is installed. A purchase or a sync needs a connection.

Permissions

  • Vibrate for haptic feedback during a run.
  • Billing for one-time purchases and the Paper Pass subscription through Google Play.

Who else receives data

Google receives purchase and subscription data when you buy through Play, and your Play Games profile and saved game when you sign in. Google acts under its own policies for that data. Unit Labs does not share or sell your data to anyone else, and does not receive your progress. We can disclose information we hold if the law requires it.

Children

Afterlane is not directed at children under 13. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live, use it only with a parent or guardian. Parents can use the controls on the device and in the store. If you believe a child has emailed us, write to us and we will delete that message.

Keeping and deleting

Data on your phone stays until you clear local progress in the game, clear the game's storage, or uninstall it. If you are signed in, clearing local progress also replaces the Play Games saved game with that cleared save. A saved game left with Google after you uninstall stays until you delete it in your Google Account or Play Games settings, or until a later signed-in clear replaces it. Google can keep purchase and Paper Pass records under its own retention policies. If you email us, we keep that message only as long as we need to help you, and we delete it within 30 days of a verified request. The steps are on the deletion page.

Your rights

Where the law gives them, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. For Afterlane, that is usually only a support email. The Play Games saved game is held by Google, so a request about that copy also goes through your Google Account. The full list of rights is in the Unit Labs privacy notice.

Changes

We update this page when the game changes. The date at the top changes when we do. For a material change, we will say so on this page.
